In cartography, latitude and longitude form a coordinate system used to determine and describe the position of any location on Earth’s surface. Latitude measures how far a place is north or south of the Equator, while longitude measures how far it is east or west of the Prime Meridian, an imaginary line running from the North Pole to the South Pole through Greenwich, London, England.

Together, latitude and longitude coordinates can pinpoint the exact location of any place on Earth.
