1 - Türkiye is a transcontinental nation, located between southeastern Europe and southwestern Asia. About 97% of its land lies in Asia (Anatolia) and 3% in Europe (Eastern Thrace). Throughout history, it has served as both a bridge and a crossroads between East and West.
2 - Türkiye borders Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Iraq, and Syria, and is surrounded by the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, Aegean Sea, and Mediterranean Sea. Its position makes it one of the world’s most strategically important countries, with strong regional influence.
3 - The capital of Türkiye is Ankara, officially designated in 1923 after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. However, Istanbul remains the nation’s largest city — and the only bi-continental metropolis in the world, straddling both Europe and Asia.

7 - Türkiye’s average elevation is about 1,332 meters (4,370 ft). Its highest point is Mount Ararat (5,137 meters / 16,854 ft), near the borders with Iran and Armenia. According to National Geographic, the country’s diverse geography includes plateaus, mountains, and fertile valleys.
8 - Central Türkiye is dominated by semi-arid steppe landscapes, while the coastal regions feature temperate forests. The climate varies from Mediterranean along the coasts to continental in the interior.
9 - Türkiye is classified as an emerging economy with strong sectors in industry, agriculture, tourism, and trade. It is a major regional producer of textiles, automobiles, and processed foods.
10 - Türkiye has been a member of NATO since 1952 and continues to pursue closer relations with the European Union. Its unique position between the Middle East and Europe gives it significant geopolitical importance in energy, defense, and diplomacy.
11 - Turkish culture blends Asian, European, and Islamic influences, seen in its art, music, cuisine, and architecture. The Ottoman legacy remains visible in landmarks like the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace, and the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.
12 - Since June 2022, the country has officially adopted the name “Türkiye” in international use, replacing “Turkey.” The change reflects the government’s goal to better represent the culture, identity, and values of the Turkish people worldwide.
