Marilyn Raphael

Marilyn Raphael is the director of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and professor of geography at UCLA.

Her primary research focus is Southern Hemisphere (SH) atmospheric dynamics and climate change; specifically, Antarctic sea ice variability and the interaction between Antarctic sea ice and the large-scale Southern Hemisphere circulation. Her work includes global climate modeling and improvements to the simulation of sea ice and the atmosphere in Southern Hemisphere research. She earned her masters and doctorate in geography from the Ohio State University. In 2021, she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
